Never be afraid to have a picture that shows a different side of your character.

To ensure that your story is going to be enjoyable to the reader you need to clearly define your characters. A great way to do this is through your illustrations. Your illustrations need to let the reader know all about the character, so try to show a variety of images.

Instead of using the same image over and over again with small changes, show dramatic differences like in the example below. See how the top row is repeating the same image and doesn’t show any detail whereas the bottom row is inviting you into Willie Wagtail’s life.
